OTHER NEWSCHILDREN 1STChild Protection in Sport Focus Group for ClubsThe Child Protection in Sport Service seeks to organise a focus group to gain the views of coaches regarding the introduction of minimum operating requirements for child protection within clubs. We seek to consult on the usefulness of these requirements and gather ideas of how coaches can best be supported to implement these in order to keep children safe and ensure they have a positive experience in sport. To date, a set of 8 minimum requirements (attached) have been agreed amongst members of the Child Protection in Sport Steering Group, the SGB Child Protection Lead Officers Group and the Local Authority Child Protection in Sport Network Group. We have since conducted one focus group with a number of club representatives - the majority of which had a remit for child protection either in the club or within their main job. It was suggested by this group that we also consult with coaches on this matter. I would be grateful if you could let me know if the Sports Council would be able to create an opportunity to speak with coaches in your local area. If you are in a position to organise this, I would be delighted to hear from you! Many thanks Fiona Campion T: 0141 418 5674 The Child Protection in Sport quarterly E-newsletter is essential reading for anyone delivering sport to children in Scotland!
