attendance for this Youth Curling Tournament.

SALSC GENTS BOWLS 2005
Hosted by
Monklands Sports Council
at West End Bowling Club
on Friday 26th August
The S.A.L.S.C. Gents
50+ Bowling took place at the West End Bowling Club,
Coatbridge on the wettest day of the summer if not
of the year. Local M.P. Tom Clarke a former Provost
of Monklands performed the opening ceremony and
welcomed the bowlers who came from all over Scotland
to Coatbridge and to the West End Bowling Club. In
spite of the weather all of the bowlers enjoyed
themselves although the souvenir minuters of Old
Poulteney Whisky were being used for medicinal
purposes, well that`s what they told me, rather than
souvenirs.

JOINT
SPORT DEVELOPMENT AND EVENTS PROGRAMME
Each year SALSC in conjunction with its member
local sports councils and other agencies organises
an extensive programme of special sports development
initiatives designed to promote new and developing
areas of sport.
An
important part of this programme is the annual
SALSC national gents' and ladies' bowling and
ladies' golf tournaments which take place throughout
Scotland, hosted by individual member local sports
councils.
SALSC
always considers possibilities of the development
of this programme.

National Ladies Bowls Tournament.
At the
National Ladies Bowls Tournament held at
The West of Scotland Indoor Bowling Club
on Wednesday 18th August, the rink
representing Clackmannanshire emerged
worthy winners from the rink from North
East Fife following an exciting event.
Congratulations to all who took part and
sincere thanks to Cambuslang &
Rutherglen Sports Council who organised
the event and The West of Scotland
Indoor Bowling Club who stepped in at
the last moment to rescue the event
owning to a heavy downfall of rain which
made the host Greens at Templeton
and Frame bowling Clubs unpalatable.
Thanks also to these Clubs for their
prompt action and support by the
officers of South Lanarkshire Leisure
for retrieving the situation.
SALSC
would also pay tribute to and all
sponsors and others involved.
I would like to include
these comments from the Monklands Sports
Council Team who took part in the Junior
Bowling Tournament.
Thank
you for letting us play for
Monklands in the S.A.L.S.C. Junior
Bowls competition.
We
didn't take our young bowlers in for
lunch on the way up, we waited till
we got to Elgin and the lady of the
hotel said we could have a barbicue
out in the hotel grounds. We went to
the local Tesco and got the food
which cost £22.43. The children all
had a ball of a time .
Over all the competition was really
well run. all of our juniors on the
day of play were given a bag of
fruit. (an apple, orange ,pear and
banana,) a pen pencil and rubber,
lunch and dinner tickets. The
juniors were fourth over all and
were happy with the way they played.
We all had a great time and hope we
may do it again.
