LADIES BOWLS

WIGTOWNSHIRE LADY BOWLERS WIN SCOTTISH TITLE AGAIN

Wigtownshire Sports Council played host to the Scottish Association of Local Sports Councils (SALSC) prestigious Ladies Bowling competition on Tuesday (19th August). Lady bowlers from all over Scotland came to enjoy a day of bowling at Stranraer and West End Bowling Clubs. Games were played throughout the day at both clubs, with the semi finals and final being held at Stranraer Bowling Club. The semi finals comprised of rinks from Inverness, Dunfermline and West Fife, Hamilton and Wigtownshire 2. Wigtownshire 2 came out top in the final, with the Wigtownshire ladies triumphing at the end to retain the trophy for Wigtownshire as it was Wigtownshire 1 that won the trophy at Strathaven last year.

The Scottish Association of Local Sports Councils invites local Sports Council to host Scottish championships in Bowls, Curling and Golf and Wigtownshire was awarded the honour of hosting the Ladies Bowls competition this year. 26 rinks came from all over Scotland, from as far afield as Thurso in the north to Roxburgh in the East. Most of the bowlers stayed in Stranraer and Portpatrick the evening before and thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the area.

Wigtownshire Sports Council is grateful to Dumfries and Galloway Council for providing the meal and to Stranraer and West End Bowling Clubs for the use of their facilities and excellent hospitality. Thanks also to the Umpires - Peter Milwain and Brian Wilson and Greenkeepers Micky Arnott and Jim Sproat. Russell Brown, MP, Cllr John Dougan, Raymond Smith, Wigtownshire Sports Council Chairman and Ron Sim, Chair of SALSC Competitions Committee presented the prizes to the winning rinks.
