Sports Awards Evening

At the annual South Lanarkshire Council Sports Awards evening held at the Council’s Banqueting Suite in Hamilton, Angus McConnell received a unique special award from South Lanarkshire Council in recognition of over 40 years service to East Kilbride Sports Council which included many years serving as Vice Chairman prior to being Chairman of Scotland’s oldest Sports Council, a position he held for many years before standing down in 2008.

Over 200 guests were in attendance at the Annual Awards Ceremony at which Angus received the prestigious award from Provost Russell Clearie MBE.

The other awards were presented to the following:

Junior Male Sports Performer of the Year:

Douglas Scott (Swimming)
Winner of 50 metres and 100 metres Breaststroke at Youth Commonwealth Games in India.

Junior Female Sports Performer of the Year:

Kirsty Gilmour (Badminton)
Winner of British Four Nations Girls Singles Badminton Championship.

Male Sports Performer of the Year:

Craig Goddard (Badminton)
Scottish Singles Badminton Champion.

Female Sports Performer of the Year:

Megan Sneddon (Football)
Winner of her 50th Scottish International Cap.

Coach of the Year:

Andy Figgins (Swimming)
Coach to many Swimmers who have had success at National and International level.
